Remember that if you are signed up for Wayne Bickford's atlantic salmon fly class that it has been moved to Saturday April 14th due to our Open House April 7th. There are still open spots left remaining for Wayne's class, contact us by email or telephone to reserve a seat.
03-24-07 - Travis Johnson was our featured tyer last Saturday. Travis is well known throughout this area for his outspoken advocacy in helping expand and protect our local fisheries in Maine and New Hampshire. Travis taught a full class how to tie three of his favorite trout and landlocked flies. Travis tied a bead/cone headed woolly bugger, an olive leach, and a simple little caddis larvae. Next week, commercial tyer Joe Calcavechiaa will be tying a few striper flies. 03-17-07 - Captain Dave Beattie taught today's class how to tie some of his favorite
flies for targeting baby bluefin tuna. These flies have also been proven to be successful for catching striped bass. Dave guides locally for striped bass, bluefish, and sharks. He
has had much success when targeting baby bluefin on a fly and to date has landed them up to 80 lbs. Jim

03-10-07 - Jeff Faulkner taught our jamboree class again. He tied four sand eel
variations that have been found to be effective for striped bass, blues, false albacore, bonito and even sea-run trout. Next week Captain Dave Beattie will be tying bluefin
tuna patterns. Seats are still open for this class, contact us as soon as possible to reserve a spot if you are interested.

03-03-07 - Kevin McKay was our class instructor today. Kevin is a guide who focuses
primarily on smallmouth bass in the Penobscot River and surrounding area. As many of you know, Kevin is also the creator of www.maineflyfish.com a website devoted to fly
fishing in Maine. Kevin is a great guy and the best guide I have ever had. He demonstrated to the class how to tie the following flies; chartreuse bonefish slider, red
and yellow Clouser minnow and a black Chernobyl ant.

02-24-07 - Jeff Faulkner taught several striper flies in class today. He tied a herring
grocery fly, a white snake fly variation (hamster) and a black flat wing eel. As many of you probably know, Jeff is a commercial tyer for the shop and can occasionally be found
behind the counter here or out guiding for us. Jeff and his dog Chester put a lot of time on the water and these flies are some of his most productive. Chester approves of them too.

02-17-07 - Wayne Bickford taught a full class how to tie three of his favorite streamer
flies. He tied a 9-3 feather wing streamer, and two marabous; an Adie's Hat and a Peacock Ghost. The 9-3 is an old favorite used by many throughout the Rangeley
region and beyond. The Adie's Hat is a variation of a Montreal streamer substituting a white marabou wing with a fluorescent blue one. The peacock ghost is a black ghost
with a twist, peacock herl used as a body and a red throat and tail instead of yellow. Next week, Jeff Faulkner will be teaching a full class how to tie striper flies.

02-10-07 - Saturday's tyer was again, Tom Cormier. The regulars at the Jamborees
have started calling him "Professor Tom" because of all the classes he's been teaching lately. Tom taught a full class to tie two of our favorite striper flies, a guitar minnow and
a white gurgler. Next week, Wayne Bickford will be teaching the class a couple of Maine streamers that are usually found in his boxes. Tom G.

02-05-07 - Yesterday we hosted Kevin McKay and his friends from
www.maineflyfish.com forum for their second annual Tie and Lie day. Jim Bernstein instructed the festive group on how to tie mini guitar minnows, dink poppers, and Dave
Skoks Pflounder fly. It was great to spend a cold February Sunday tying with kindred souls.

02-03-07 - Saturday's tyer was our very own Tom Cormier. Tom has been fishing
steelhead for three years and uses some very unique patterns. He had the group tie 6 of his favorites; a Jim Juan Worm, Viagra Caddis, Sparkle Maggot, "Red Head",
Oregon Cheese Glo Bug, and Egg Sucking Pheasant Tail.

01-27-07 - Tom Cormier taught our class how to tie the RM soft short "Lobster Fly"
yesterday. John Kelleher was unable to teach due to exigent circumstances and Tom did an excellent job filling in. It is a difficult fly to tie, and some people had a little trouble
mastering it, but all flies came out looking good.
01-20-07 - "Young" Tom Gagnon was our featured tier / instructor in todays fly tying
jamboree. For the past few years Tom has been tying flies commercially for our shop. On most weekends during the winter he can be found at our shops tying bench turning
out some beautiful creations. Tom now ties the majority of our custom ordered flies. He has been tying flies and fly fishing since he was thirteen years old and although he is
only 20 years old, his knowledge of tying materials, patterns, and creative fly tying is well beyond his years. He recently achieved fame for his recent creation of the infamous Turd Fly.

01-13-07 - Eric Wallace was our featured tyer again this week. Eric taught the class to
tie his versions of the Toad, a fly made famous by Andy Mills in the tarpon movie "Chasing Silver".
01-06-07 - Captain Eric Wallace was our featured tier / instructor today. Eric spends
his summers guiding for striped bass in the Casco Bay area of Maine and his winters guiding in the Florida Keys for tarpon, permit, bonefish, barracuda, and snook. Today
Eric taught a full class how to tie some of his favorite and most successful version of flatwings. Several of the students came to me after the class and gave Eric high praise
by saying, "I would love to do a guided trip with that guy".
